Travel back in time and explore centuries worth of Swiss history as you roam around the expansive grounds of the Open-Air Museum Ballenberg. This historic open-air museum will take you back to a simpler time, giving you the chance to see over 100 authentic buildings from all over the country. You’ll also get to witness delicious demonstrations like authentic bread and cheese-making as well as old-school construction techniques.

Let the stress of modern life disappear completely, and immerse yourself in Switzerland’s fascinating past.

Must Know

  • Dogs are admitted free of charge. Please keep them on a short lead
  • Lockers are available at the East and West ticket offices. Large items of luggage can be stored in a lockable room

Good to Know

  • Throughout the museum grounds, there are tables and benches available for an enjoyable picnic in the open air. The barbecue areas are equipped with firewood and running water. Please note that if there is a “Foehn” wind (coming from the Alps) barbecuing is not allowed throughout the museum grounds
  • Parking is available on-site
  • There are three restaurants on-site

  • Children under 6 enter for free and don’t need a ticket
  • Free entry with the Swiss Museum Pass and the Museums-PASS-Musées
  • Handcart and horse-drawn carriages are available to rent on-site
